job summary

The Project Architect will be an integral team member providing leadership in execution of design intent and production efforts throughout documentation, specs, and construction. This individual will plan and design, and/or facilitate the execution of new building designs, and plan, design and/or facilitate the execution of building expansions or renovations according to clients’ needs, desires, and financial resources.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Has full responsibility for managing all aspects of multiple small to mid-sized projects and estimates scope of work
  • Responsible for coordination of all project efforts
  • Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budget, and scope of work to completion
  • Identifies scope of work through consultation including clients’ needs and requirements, approximate budget, timetable, and possible needs for future expansion. Prepares proposals.
  • Determines clients’ preferences regarding materials, styles, colors, and other variables.
  • Attempts to identify through collaboration clients’ priorities in terms of needs vs. desires.
  • Assists clients in defining their priorities and vision by preparing preliminary sketches of options.
  • Conducts research on feasibility
  • Compliance with safety standards and building regulations
  • Determines and adheres to budgets and timelines
  • Manages project teams and collaborates with clients, engineers, planners and other industry professionals.
  • Prepares and presents designs, specifications, estimated costs, and proposed construction schedule.
  • Actively manages the schedule, budget, and programs; project communications, and project team assignments.
  • Actively manages the coordination of detailed plans integrating engineering, electrical, and HVAC considerations; presents plans to clients for review and approval.
  • Actively manages the production of drawings
  • Collaborates with clients to select and award construction contracts.
  • Collaborates with contractors and clients to facilitate the building process to meet clients’ specifications.
  • Updates existing design techniques with respect to latest design trends
  • Reviews drawings sets for quality assurance (format, detailing, content, and coordination)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • In depth knowledge of design principles.
  • Extremely proficient with computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation and consultation skills.
  • Ability to translate client ideas into visual and/or tangible references such as drawings or models.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulatory standards
  • Creative and visualization skills
  • Willingness to travel if needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Registration with NCARB
  • Ten plus years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Active board licensure required.
  • Excellent technical drawing skills
  • Experience with commercial projects

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
