The Senior Architect will bring an integrated approach to design to ensure quality design and technical project resolution are delivered throughout all project phases. You will be managing projects, people, creativity, and identifying and implementing strategies that will best meet the client’s needs, budgets, and timelines. Mentor fellow team members to achieve design solutions and outcomes expected by our clients and their design intentions/standards and project goals

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Direct and provide leadership for design teams
  • Sharing technical skills and the ability to interface with the construction industry
  • Performs quality assurance checks for completeness (format, detailing, content and coordination), accuracy, meeting standards, specifications, and safety/code requirements
  • Ability to take ownership of projects (in terms of initial design, documentation, and construction) and independently lead team members to new levels of success
  • Manages the scheduling and day to day workflow of projects
  • Responsive to client/contractor requests
  • Participates in the development of quality control and design standards to accurately complete technical drawings
  • Identifies, through consultation, clients’ needs and requirements, approximate budget, timetable, and possible needs for future expansion
  • Assists clients in defining their priorities and vision by preparing preliminary sketches of options
  • Determine the requirements and best practice components for systems and practices to meet clients’ needs
  • Prepares and presents designs, specifications, estimated costs, and proposed construction schedule
  • Conducts research on feasibility
  • Visits job sites to gather data as needed
  • Compliance with safety standards and building regulations
  • Determines and adheres to construction budgets and timelines
  • Monitor budget to ensure project is progressing in a cost effective and timely manner alongside Project Manager
  • Collaborates with technical designers to ensure design intent is illustrated in construction documents
  • Direct project design coordination meetings for projects and prepares and distributes detailed notes/minutes
  • Model reviews – ensure efficient design strategies are being utilized and constructability details are fully coordinated
  • Manages project teams and collaborates with clients, engineers, planners, and other industry professionals
  • Collaborates with engineers to ensure project is moving forward and ensuring there is sufficient time for project reviews
  • Provides oversight with technical designers to ensure the production of construction documents is on time and on budget
  • Reviews detailed plans integrating engineering, electrical, and HVAC considerations; presents plans to clients for review and approval
  • Modifies new or existing plans as required to meet the clients’ needs and communicates changes to project team for execution
  • Follows up with Technical Designer, contractors, and clients to facilitate the building process to meet clients’ specifications including job meetings, RFIs, Bulletins, shop drawing review, etc.
  • Use the accepted office standards as guidelines
  • May have to work closely with building regulations
  • Updates existing design techniques with respect to latest design trends
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members
  • Delegate, provide feedback, and follow up on tasks assigned to junior staff
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD preferred
  • In depth knowledge of design principles and technical solutions
  • Excellent Project Management skills
  • Can independently perform a variety of assignments
  • Experience with hand drawing and sketching
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Excellent problem-solving and consultation skills
  • Ability to translate client ideas into visual and/or tangible references such as drawings or models
  • Experience should include in-depth knowledge of producing a coordinated set of construction documents
  • A ‘get it done’ approach
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulatory standards
  • Willingness to travel if needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Certification as licensed professional required
  • Registration with NCARB preferred
  • Twelve or more years of relevant experience

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Travel to client/project locations
  • Comply with safety requirements
